Post Surgery
Expectations
Normally, patients have a mental picture
of how they expect to look after having
any type of weight loss surgery. It is
important to remember not to expect to
look or feel great right after the surgery.
Recovery takes time and patience and most
patients would agree that the results
are certainly worth it!
It is absolutely normal
to feel a little down after the surgery. These feelings usually
subside as you heal and begin to look and feel better.
Healing
Although newer techniques are designed to reduce some post-operative
discomforts, you must keep in mind that you have had surgery. Minor
pain, swelling and temporary numbness are a few of the more common
discomforts a patient may experience.
It is always recommended
to start walking around even though you might feel a little sore
because this helps prevent blood clots from forming. Usually it
takes about a week or two before you can get back to work following
the surgery. Although movement is helpful in recovery any activities
that are strenuous should be avoided.
Follow-up Care
Follow up care is very important to monitor your progress and to
see if any additional procedures are required. Always feel free
to call your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms such as heavy
bleeding or increase in pain. A good doctor will take the time to
answer any questions you have before or after liposuction surgery.
Stitches are usually removed or dissolve within ten days. Any bruising
and swelling generally takes a minimum of three weeks to begin to
disappear.
After most of the swelling
has subsided you will see a considerable difference in the shape
of your body. With the combination of eating a healthy diet and
regular exercise you will begin to feel great and be able to maintain
and enjoy your new shape.
